Most of us have an ugly past. We either admit it or we don’t. But we have one none the less. Some of our pasts are engulfed in relationships, ministry opportunities, or education misjudgments.
When was the last time you just started over? The last time you said, I need to restart?
For me it has been a long time since I’ve started fresh. The last time I started over from scratch I was moving to Texas to escape the reality of my past and start new. I was ready to move on from past relationships, move on from past mistakes, past experiences, past schools. It was time to start over. I knew God was calling me into full-time ministry & I said God take and lead me.
The song Oceans by Hillsong United was a pretty overplayed song on both radio and in churches over the past few years. The reality is though that for me the bridge of that song was my cry to God. “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.” I prayed to God that He would lead me further and further into his embrace, trusting his plan for my life. This was new & dangerous territory for me. Mostly dangerous because I seriously was going somewhere I had never been before, building new relationships, creating new environments, and knowing God’s plan was greater than mine. If I had trusted in my own plan then I would have been in college for the past 2 years not letting God make the impact he has in my life and others by just trusting Him!
Over the next few weeks I will be making a new fresh start. It will be hard. It will be life changing. But knowing that God is in control I don’t have to worry about the details. Will I be stable financially? Will I really be secure relationally? Will I be judged? God is in control not me. If I was in control I’d fail.
Romans 8:26-29 makes it clear to us that we are to TRUST in the spirit of God living in us. That we are to TRUST His plan for us! Know that God has a plan for you and He will direct your path. Wherever you are right now. God could be leading you further in the ministry you are in. He could be leading you to a break. He could even be leading you to something new. Whatever you do, don’t let go of His grasp and calling. Let God lead, let go and let Him have control. God’s purpose for our lives is always better than ours!
My question to you is, are you ready to leave your ugly past behind to pursue the new path God has laid out for you?
“Are you ready to leave your ugly past behind to pursue the new path God has planned for you?”
